Designed by the Rivière-du-Loup architecture firm Lagacé, Massicotte & Casgrain in 1975, the Musée du Bas-Saint-Laurent holds an important place in the history of museum architecture in Quebec. The building’s design invites a typological reflection on the conception in our society of what constitutes a modern museum.
For this exhibition, three artists—Alexia Laferté Coutu, Virginie Laganière and Vincent Perron—were invited to a creative residency in which they created artworks in connection with the building. Part of the Musée’s 50th anniversary celebrations, the exhibition explores not only the aesthetic design of the building’s architecture, but also its historical and critical aspects.
